Cleveland and Ohio Adventures
June 20, 2018
The summer before 8th grade, my family moved from Noblesville, Indiana, to Brunswick, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. To say I was less than thrilled was an understatement. I loved living in Indiana. All my best friends lived in the same neighborhood as me and we were super tight. I had just attended Bobby Knight’s basketball camp at Indiana University and was convinced I was the second coming of Steve Alford (minus all the actual skill and athletic ability perhaps). Indianapolis was my home. Indianapolis Indians games every summer. Exploring at the amazing Children’s Museum. The Hoosier Dome. Union Station. Indiana High School Basketball. The 500. Indy felt right.
I can’t say I really claimed Cleveland as home for a long time. It’s not that I hated it. We had fun adventures in Northeast Ohio. Our family explored Cleveland as much as we had any other place we had lived. I honestly didn’t give Cleveland that much thought or that much attention. Because of my love for basketball, the Cavaliers did become my team, although I did have Michael Jordan posters covering my bedroom walls growing up. My dad took me to several Cavaliers games at the Coliseum in Richfield and I remember them like they were yesterday.
Fast forward to earlier in our marriage and again we were living in Indiana. My wife and I both worked just south of Bloomington. Our first child was born a Hoosier. After his birth, though, my wife had some health issues. Nothing life-threatening, but enough that we felt we needed the support of family and decided to once again uproot and move back to Cleveland.
For the past 12 years, we’ve called Cleveland home and in that time, we’ve made it a point to have a relationship with our beloved city. Cleveland is often the butt of people’s jokes around the country. Some of them are earned. Some of them, though, are from people who just don’t know. We love Cleveland. We love Northeast Ohio. We love O-H-I-O.
The focus of Family Money Adventure is helping families find financial freedom so they can explore the world together. While we love traveling around the country and hopefully around the globe one day, there is a special place in our heart for the Buckeye State. Because of that, we’ve decided to add more content focusing on our adventures locally in Cleveland as well as around the entire state of Ohio
Consider us Ohio ambassadors, dedicated to sharing the love we have for our home state and all that it offers. We have many readers located in the Midwest so Cleveland makes a perfect destination for families looking for somewhere new to travel without having to fly or spend a ton of money.
Coming soon will be some reviews of some of our most recent local adventures, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, the Cleveland Natural History Museum, and many other great places families can visit. We will also show you how you can save money on some of these adventures.
One Cleveland adventure you can read now is our first trip to Brewnuts, a local donut shop that is taking the donut scene by storm.
We will continue to provide support for families through financial and travel advice as always. We just wanted to add Ohio and Cleveland as one of our focus areas as well.
